One of these days when I think I have enough I might fancy making a triptych for a friend or relative and I wasn't sure how I could maintain an ability to search across all sessions for all 'doors' keywords. For example, I might take pictures of doors in Italy or France or Amsterdam or wherever, which are in different Sessions.

In my old catalog, it was easy because I could just filter on a particular keyword to see what I have.īut I wasn't sure how to maintain this across several sessions. I use the keywords feature to tag these things. For example, I take photographs of quaint doors (among a few other things) I come across in my travels. I was looking to see how I might keep all of the photography sub-projects I work on accessible from one space. How about you? I should note, I'm not a pro photographer, otherwise I probably (hopefully) would have known this stuff much sooner. Spouse and I travel a lot and I immediately saw the application of that to my work flow - a session for 'Italy-2018' or 'Brazil-2019', etc., rather than Smart Albums in my big Catalog. It has changed the way I think about backups, offline, and cloud storage. I love the fact that each Session is completely self-contained in a directory on disk and can be moved/copied around intact, complete with RAW files and any modifications to those RAW files. Well, it turns out that Sessions are a much better match for the sort of work I do with C1. I decided to take a step back and do some more reading and research on Sessions. Well, I've been going through my photos and attempting to re-organize some things during this downtime and realized my Catalog is an unwieldy monolithic mess with nearly 15,000 RAW files in it. I think what he really meant was that if you want to shoot tethered, Sessions are the best way to handle that. But nonetheless I filed it away as such and didn't give it much more thought and embraced Catalog. Now of course, that doesn't mean that is the only use for Sessions. I recall one time I read or watched someone talking about Sessions and mentioned that Sessions are used for tethered captures. Way back when I started using Capture One, I of course consumed all of the blogs and YouTubes I could which covered use/tips/tricks/workflow/etc. Just wanted to drop in to share a revelation I've had recently.
